In
October of 1929 the stock market crash sent tremors throughout
the national economy and many businesses were declared insolvent
and went bankrupt. Although the Schnitzius family lost nearly
everything and the company was ousted from its building, at Elm
and Walton in today's downtown Dallas, Schnitzius Manufacturing
Company never went bankrupt or halted production. By the mid-thirties
Thomas Harry Schnitzius had retired, turning over operations to
his two sons, George and Pat.
